Welsh classes seem to become a very knit together group — perhaps because he spend so much time practising things that involving asking about each other! We’re on to favourites and most-hated now, and it’s all a bit revealing, even in jest! “Mae’n well gyda fi goffi na the” (I prefer coffee to tea) seems [...]

Sllooww on updates for a while now, but there really has been sooo much revision at the start of the Sylfaen course, then Christmas then two weeks of Y Coleg Yn Cau Achos Y Eira that there hasn’t been much too report. Am looking forward to tomorrow night’s class, hoping I haven’t forgotten too much. [...]

And so we launched from loads of revision to two new “patterns” in seven pages and 2 lessons. Argh! Anyway, we can now starts rows in Welsh… A unit on problems and complaining! Now I’m sure the reason it’s arrived at this point in the syllabus is that the pattern for “There’s something the matter” [...]

And plenty of it. Three weeks into Sylfaen 1 now and we’re still recapping over last year’s work. Lots of familiar faces from last year and quite a few new one as we’re apparently the only Sylfaen 1 in the area this term and they’ve combined Myndediad classess from all over to make the numbers. [...]

Well there’s another year of classes finished, and the end of Mynediad. The exam went well (although I drank gormod o goffi before going in and was rather anxious for the end after three papers…) Had a moment startlement on reading the speaking/listening examiners name on the door and discovering it matched the one of [...]

As I ought to realise from all this teacher training stuff at work — speaking is different from writing. Different skill set different bits of brain! And so while I’ve been dutifully practising reading and writing my fledgling Welsh, I haven’t really done enough speaking outside of class. Enter a lovely new-to-me resource “Say Something [...]

We’ve done descriptions before but we’re adding some new patterns now. “Sut le yw…?” and “Sut un yw…?” “What is [place] like?” and “What is [person] like?” The usual rollcall of celebs with at least a vague Welsh collection were described in more or less flattering terms as were a variety of countries we’d visited [...]
Revision and sickness

Not our sickness I might add. Talking about sickness… The lesson are all following a pattern at the moment, starting off with a session of revision on the things that will come up in the exam. Once that was done we started looking at the next unit which is on health. I think a number [...]

Mostly revision this week. We looked at a couple of past papers as well. I’m finding it rather comforting actually. They all seem quite doable so far. Went along to Siop Siarad again on Saturday. Am tempted to go down and watch the rugby games there once the Six Nations kick off.

This was a nice simple unit and we all had a bit of fun describing various famous faces. New stuff here was mostly vocab. Two new questions to use: “Beth wyt ti’n feddwl o…?” (What do you think of…) “Sut un yw…?” (What is … like?) Again I’d done a bit of this already, last [...]
